Refrigerated Trucking in Ontario, Across Canada and Into the US

Pre-cooled 53-foot reefers, food-grade trailers and a dispatch team that watches your temperature until the load is signed for.

KAV provides refrigerated trucking from our Brampton, Ontario terminal to receivers across Canada and the United States. Our 53-foot reefer trailers hold fresh, chilled and frozen freight at the setpoint you specify, from deep-frozen product at −25 °C to produce that needs a steady +2 °C, and our 24/7 dispatch team stays on every load until it is delivered. Whether you ship one truckload of berries to Montreal or run weekly frozen loads to Calgary, you deal with one asset-based carrier, one point of contact and equipment we own and maintain ourselves.

Temperature-sensitive freight leaves very little room for error. A trailer that arrives warm, a unit that cycles when it should run continuously, or a missed appointment at a busy distribution centre can turn a good load into a claim. Our refrigerated service is built around preventing those problems before the trailer leaves the yard.

Temperature control you can verify

Every reefer is pre-cooled to your setpoint before it backs into the door, and our drivers confirm the reading with the shipper at pickup. The setpoint, run mode and seal number are recorded on the bill of lading so everyone is working from the same instructions. We run units in continuous mode or start/stop mode exactly as the shipper requests, and our drivers check the display at every stop.

When you need proof, we can pull a download from the reefer unit showing temperature over the full trip. Customers shipping produce, dairy, meat and frozen food use these records for their own food-safety files and for receiver disputes.

What's included with every reefer load

  • Trailer pre-cooled to setpoint and checked before loading
  • Continuous or start/stop mode, set to your instructions
  • Clean, odour-free, food-grade trailers inspected before each load
  • Load locks or straps to keep pallets secure in transit
  • Setpoint and seal numbers recorded on the bill of lading
  • Reefer temperature download available on request
  • Status updates from dispatch at pickup, at the border and on delivery

Food safety on every trip

Our drivers are trained in sanitary transportation practices for food, from trailer cleanliness to keeping doors closed and temperatures stable during loading and unloading. On Canadian loads we work to the expectations set by the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations, and on US-bound loads we follow the sanitary transportation requirements that apply to food carriers. If your quality team needs our procedures in writing, ask and we will send them.

Common refrigerated lanes

Most of our reefer freight moves out of the GTA on lanes we run every week: Ontario to Quebec, Ontario to Alberta and British Columbia, Ontario to the Maritimes, and cross-border runs into the US Midwest and Northeast. Regular lanes mean experienced drivers, realistic transit times and better pricing for you. See the full list on our service area and freight lanes page.

For freight that crosses the border, our Canada–US cross-border trucking service adds customs coordination, and for scheduled weekly volume, ask about dedicated lane capacity.
